HEARTWOOD MALT WHISKY 1 TO 3 OF 3 SET OF 3

In the modern story of Tasmania whisky, few names carry the quiet authority of Heartwood Malt Whisky. Created by independent bottler Tim Duckett, Heartwood has never chased scale, spectacle, or easy recognition. Instead, it has built a near-mythic reputation through patience, discernment, and an uncompromising eye for cask character. Drawing from Tasmania’s finest single malt spirit, Duckett has fashioned a label that celebrates not production volume, but the rare alchemy that occurs when exceptional whisky meets the right barrel at precisely the right moment.

What emerges in the glass is whisky of conviction: dense, layered, and unapologetically expressive. Heartwood bottlings are famed for their richness and power, yet beneath the intensity lies remarkable poise — notes of dark fruit, polished oak, baking spice, toffee, and malt unfolding with measured drama. In an era crowded with marketing narratives, Heartwood stands apart for offering something far rarer: substance, individuality, and a steadfast belief that great whisky should speak for itself.

The origin of this expression is Tim Duckett’s first barrel from Sullivans Cove – HH007.  Not impressed with how it was maturing, Tim divided the contents into three – hence 3 of /3 which followed 1 of /3 and 2 of 3/3.  The three parts were transferred to three heavily charred 100 litre ex-Port barrels.  The stories of 1 of /3 and 2 of /3 can be found elsewhere.

The first barrel played with (1of/3) was half full due to the angels, then filled with 100% peated Lark spirit in 2008. In March 2015, it was felt the middle palate was lacking, so three liters of 5 year old Oloroso sherry 100% peated Lark whisky was added. Hence 1 of 3 was born.

An amalgam of Lark & Tasmania Distilleries whiskies from x Port/Peated/Sherry matured components. It includes some of Australia's oldest malt - a 16 year old from Tasmania Distillery, the remainder being 8 & 6 year old whisky from Lark. Bottled in April 2016 at 68.1% ABV.

In 2012, to compensate for loss from the “angels' share”, the third barrel was topped up with Lark 100% new make.  In 2014, the third barrel was vatted with two Lark barrels.  And in March 2015, Tim added 3 litres of 100% peated 5 year old Oloroso Sherried Lark origin whisky.
